1013 W/S (C). c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} [struck through] BY.1/G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 26.6.33. 3½ LITRE BENTLEY - RE; SIDE SPARE WHEEL CARRIER. We think that the use of the side spare wheel carrier on the Bentley ought to be practically prohibited. It should never be considered for a moment, except when a customer insists on having two spare wheels, and it seems to me that on a car of this description we ought to be able to persuade a customer that one spare wheel is sufficient. The spare wheel in question means :- (1). Increased wind resistance, which is a serious debit owing to its actual position relative to the body. (2). Increased weight in the neighbourhood of 70 lbs. The cost of dies etc. to make preparation for the fitting of such a wheel is £100, and in view of the foregoing we do not feel justified in spending this sum of money at the moment. We therefore await your final decision as to whether we are to order material for a limited number or not. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} [Signature] | ||
