Whilst at Chateauroux we found that we had two types of wheel available - one, a mild type which gave the position of tyre contact with the road one ¼" nearer centre point than the standard wheel. We were therefore able to carry out a test to see whether the departure from <s>standard</s> centre point steering on the present axle was responsible for any of the shocks and wobbles complained of.

After careful comparison of the two sets of wheels, we came to the conclusion that the steering did definitely behave the best when the out of centre point was greatest. The chief advantage seemed to be gained on good roads when the small movements of the steering wheel were decidedly less.
