-2- EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}12/MH.{M. Huckerby}1.4.37 (a) cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} at this car speed whether running on top or third gear, forward or retard, or even coasting with the engine idling, clutch out. (Propeller balance ?) (b) The clutch still suffers from shudders and jaggers - at times rather objectionable. This is rather disappointing, as the absence of the drive "groan" referred to rather indicated that a slipper flywheel was fitted and which does not in this case overcome the clutch trouble, as it appears to have done on the 25/30 HP. R.R. and Bentley chassis. (c) Springing quite good for slow speed town work, but suffers rather badly from pitching and tossing over uneven roads. The shock absorber control, I still maintain, does not seem to have enough range, and one should be definitely able to overdamp same so as to appreciate the best working position. This control has the usual disease of sticking and jamming, which rather indicates that some Bijou feed lubrication scheme to this control is required. There are objectionable rattles from the back of the car, which would appear to emanate from the shock absorber or fixing. (d) Steering wheel "joggle". Slight only. Lacks easy "float". Inclined lack controlability on uneven roads at high speeds and cornering. (? insufficient spring damping). (e) Change gear mechanism.- At times comes out of gear while running. One is not sure if properly engaged, as gear change seems very difficult and appears at times to be definitely jammed in the top gear. Consider this feature much worse than the standard, as even the best is not as nice to handle as the 25/30 HP. 20 Bentley (f) Engine becomes "fussy" on the forward drive over 60 m.p.h. (g) Horn button rattles badly. Is a definite vibration indicator and shows up item (a). | ||
