(a) Replace the lap coil by a dummy and reduce the number of comm. segments to 47. This will give an even volt drop round the commutator.

(b) Produce a winding similar to the one used by Bosch on their starter motors which had a symmetrical wave winding 22 slots and 33 comm. bars. We think this scheme of winding could be developed to give us the required number of conductors in the armature, for instance 30 slots and 45 comm. bars with say 8 turns per coil.

The first scheme (a) suffers from the disadvantage that we shall be wasting valuable space in the armature in using a dummy, but we think the latter scheme is worthy of serious consideration, although at the moment we have not investigated the same to see if it is feasible, but we assume Bosch would not do it if it was not.

We should be glad if you could arrange to have both schemes investigated on paper before trying them experimentally.
