To. from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} or-Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} or-Dev or-Hdr. Hall/R.6.5.37. Attached is a copy of a letter we have received from Adkins relative to the Long clutch plate which was fitted to 3-AZ-194 in America. This car cannot be considered to be basically good for clutch trouble, since in the first 5,000 miles, during which it was in America, it had two standard Rolls-Royce clutch plates fitted, and both of these gave trouble. We have now received at Derby a replica of this plate, and are checking up the lining and the cushioning characteristics. We recommend that Inskip should be authorised to fit these clutch plates in case of trouble in America if, on examination of the plate out of 3-AZ-194 at the end of 10,000 miles it appears to be satisfactory.
