LONDON TRIALS CAR 60-JS.{Mr Johnson's Secretary}

We have been out on this car and we agree with EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} and MX.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} that in its present state it is not suitable for a trials car.

We are satisfied that all the parts of the car and the adjustments are up to the standard set by the Experimental Dept. We think this car may need some special treatment and for this reason we have asked to have it in the Experimental Shop.

It is known that the jellying complaint which is bad on this car only comes about after the proper body is fitted. All cars on test when fitted with any of the test bodies are entirely free from jellying. The body of this particular trials car is a copy of the body which was fitted to the 25 HP. car which R.{Sir Henry Royce} has in the South of France. The 25 HP. car with this type of body was abnormally bad for jellying. Except that the car had to go away we should have investigated the fault on that car.

It would appear that this type of body has a special characteristic which brings up this complaint and therefore will need some investigation work to see what can be done to overcome it.

We have told EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} that we ought to tell Sales that we shall require this car at least a week.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
