Bailey - Chief Engineer} x~ono Ha/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}10/KT.21.7.33. x311? D.W.S. JACKS AND 20/25 HP CARS. We should estimate that at least 25% of the 20/25 HP. cars which we turn out now are fitted at the coachbuilders with D.W.S. Jacks. The customer pays £10.10.0 plus £1. fitting charge for this and in addition is of course landed with the standard jack as supplied with the car, the cost of which is to us 19/6d. At the request of the D.W.S. people we have modified our rear spring plate so that the jacks can be more easily fitted; this modification will appear on all 20/25 HP. cars. The present car, therefore, can be fitted with D.W.S. jacks without any further modifications. We are trying out a sample set of a lightened type of D.W.S. jack which are suitable for the 20/25 HP. car. These appear to be quite satisfactory. We understand quite unofficially that the price of these jacks in quantity would be very much less than what we pay for the 40/50 HP. jack, and is so low that it would appear to be well worth while considering the possibility of standard-ising them on this car. Actually it is very little easier to jack up the rear of a modern 20/25 car than a Phantom II when using the ordinary screw jack, and we are of course faced with the fact that D.W.S. jacks appear as a standard fitting on an increasing number of moderate priced cars.
