BENTLEY 5. REAR SPRINGS.

Please receive herewith the following scheme :-

F.CD.1443 6" De Saxe Rear Road Spring.

The above scheme shews the rear spring moved rearwards 6.000" in relation to the rear axle centre line. The angular relationship between the spring eyes and the axle nose is shewn in a position to keep the pinion shaft and propeller as much as possible in line, which is said to be the best arrangement to reduce vibration. This angle can be modified experimentally to give the best compromise.

In order that this experiment can be tried without delay, we have shewn the rear spring anchorage bracket with the lower portion cut away to simplify fitting to the frame.

The rear crossmember has been moved rearwards 2.200" and the petrol tank mounting brackets altered to suit.

The rearmost body bracket is also shewn moved rearwards 6.000", the body will have to be modified to suit the new position or the body mounted on the frame.

Special springs to give circular bending in spite of the offset will be required.

Please instruct experimentally only.
