To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} & BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. RADIATOR, SHUTTER & OTHER CONTROL. X.8250 N. SCH.1970. X.8240 I am not quite convinced that the details shewn on the above will give entire satisfaction. (1) The handle for the shutter control should I think revolve upon its pin or at least it should be smooth so as to turn easily in the fingers. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} has made it fixed and knurled and with sharp corners. (2) Alsi it looks as though if not driven into the lever tightly before rivetting it will occasionally be loose: inspect or cannot tell if it is really tight. Suggest quick taper, no collar, screw thread, or conical collar. Any of these would be better and certain to be of unfailing tightness: rivetting better countersunk. Imagine the one shewn put into a loose hole and rivetted only: tight only at the rivetted end - soon loose. SEE ORIGINAL FOR SKETCHES. (3) The rack and lever is shewn for square teeth: acme would be better 14° or 20°. They would go in and out easier, and the reaction would not throw out the control. (4) Regarding the small handle for the starter carburetter I think the small pointer finger a great nuisance to produce. Can we not mark the cover so that the handle itself is the pointer like the electrical switchbox. (5) Why? Another awkward piece of construction is the cover. SEE ORIGINAL FOR SKETCHES.
