- 2 - EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}5/H9.10.22. (d). Contd. Glico Motor Spirit. This is generally a poor spirit. It is poor for carburation and inclined to load up, and is also poor for power, and bad for pinking. (e). Carburine. (Supplied by Messrs. Carless Cable). Specific Gravity .730 Boils at 83°C. First distillate over at 75°C. This is quite satisfactory as regards carburation and power etc. but is very bad for pinking, and worse even than BP. or Glico Motor Spirit. (f). Glico Benzol. Specific Gravity .865°C. Boils at 76°C. First distillate over at 81°C. This is an excellent motor spirit, very good for carburation under all conditions and very good for power and free from pinking. (g). Shell No.1. with 20% Benzol. Similar as F.{Mr Friese} but pinking is less, practically nil. There is also a slight advantage as regards carburation. (h). National Benzol. Carburation is fairly good and compares favourably with B.P., but is not as good as Glico. Quite O.K. as regards absence of pinking. I should be glad to go into the matter further with you as regards the question of price and the reliability of deliveries. I also feel we might take advantage of these reports and bring points forward to the suppliers of such as B.P. Spirit, and point out that we are prepared to try further samples of spirit which they can guarantee will give the same virtues as regards carburation, better if possible, and at the same time free from pinking, or certainly better than previous samples so as to compare favourably with Shell No. 1 as regards pinking.
