HYDRAULIC SHOCK ABSORBERS. X.235. X.4612. We have been doing some high speed braking tests with the ribbed brake drums on a car fitted with the American springing. The general impression is that under these conditions the car sways about the road far too much. We notice that on the adjustable Delco shock absorbers, particulars of which we have sent to you, we were able to - by going from the largest leak to the smallest leak - go from a soft low speed ride to almost a sports car condition. It has occurred to us that in any new shock absorber we are making we ought not to be inferior to the Delco results, or we shall be criticised by Springfield. We do not say that the hard adjustment of the Delco's was at all desirable from the point of view of a good ride but it is just the sort of feature which would appeal to those of our customers who take a yearly high speed run across France down to the Riviera and otherwise use their car as a town carriage.
