1113 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} June 24th, 37. BENTLEY B.14-HK{Col. T. Harker - Sales} - 4 1/4-LITRE. CON. ROD FAILURE. The crankshaft and main bearings have now been dismantled. All the crankshaft bearings were loose in the housing. They are in a fiarly good condition except for ring marks. No cracks or breaking away of the metal. The crankshaft journals No.1, 4, 7 were ringed to a depth of .001 to .002". The trailing portion behind the oil holes on these journals was, approx. .005". The intermediate bearings were not too bad, approx. .0005 ringed. Kingsbury have stoned the ridges out, and have obtained a 90% finish. They remark that the shaft in their opinion is on the soft side, as against what they have been used to. This car has not been abroad, all the running done in England. They are replacing one rod only as against previous practice of six. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} | ||
