Hancock - Head Chateauroux} has arranged for the axle job to be done to 35-EX. at Paris as soon as Steadman's work with the Bentleys is complete and we have 6.B.IV. running mileage with the new con-rods fitted. That should be some time next week. We will fit the gearbox engine stay at the same time. I am at a loss to understand your remarks about sideways clearance in the "rubber rear shackles". We have experienced no such trouble. On the 17th Feb. the Daily Report states when referring to rear springs "side play in rear shackles causes knock", the rubber is in the front anchorage of the rear springs. The rear shackles which cause this knock are of the ordinary metal type. The same trouble was experienced with 32-EX. in France, but in this case the front anchorages also knocked and they were not the rubber type. Are we to remove our rubber anchorages under these circumstances? GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} has already instructed me to fit the oil level indicator with the cork float when the car is held up. We will disconnect the front roll-rod. I had previously refrained from carrying out any tests without it as the links are the only ones in which the rubbers will have carried out an undisturbed mileage, but as they appear to be no use in any case in this present form, I do not suppose this is of much importance. -------- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH{George W.
