To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. c. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.4/MH.{M. Huckerby}12.1.38. 6003. POSITION OF THERMOMETER POCKET ON WRAITH CYLINDER HEAD - 100 PRODUCTION CARS. As we have already pointed out on various occasions, the only satisfactory place for the thermometer pocket, (in order that the thermometer shall read the radiator top water temperature accurately) is in the cylinder head outlet or as near as possible. We have fitted two Wraith cars up with pockets on the best position obtainable - 26.G.VI for 15,000 miles and 27.G.VI - with a scheme to SCD.177 which modifies existing cylinder heads. This position is entirely satisfactory and as a side issue, should reduce the chance of thermometer capillaries fracturing. Will you, therefore, please instruct the necessary modification to the cylinder head to provide a tapped boss at this front position, with the removal of the present rear boss, together with necessary capillary clips, and add this to the production LOP. so the first 100 cars have this arrangement. If possible we would like the cylinder heads of the 6 production cars to be modified to SCD.177 in order to attain the same result. The thermometer needs no alteration.
