Mr. Hives. from Dodd.

We have experienced rather a lot of firing in the silencer on 18-EX this season, the trouble however has proved to be in the butterfly valve of the carb.

The valve had evidently been banged past its fully open position, causing it to hit on the low speed jet collar, this had caused a burr on the valve, preventing it from making a perfect joint.

We get only an occasional spit in the silencer now this has been attended too.

R has expressed a desire to try more damping , I mentioned this wish to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} when we first arrived, asking him for different washers for the dampers.

We have a bad piston knock when engine is cold, this developed when the pistons were removed for inspection before leaving Derby.

Car otherwise running excellent.

Yours faithfully,

F.{Mr Friese} Dodd.
