X.4352 - LENGTHENED LUCAS E.575 DYNAMO.

We yesterday received the sample lengthened Lucas E.575 dynamo, being 1" longer in the carcase, field and armature winding, but with end fittings as the standard E.575.

We were able yesterday to put this on a preliminary test run and we now attach to Mr. Royce's copy of this note a photostat of Smith dynamo curves previously issued, to which have been added in pencil the performance in the hot condition of the 1" longer Lucas machine compared with the performance of the standard Lucas, and it will be seen that the cutting in point of the new machine, namely 540 r.p.m. is exactly as given in our specification, but that the curve does not keep up to the specified performance as well as could be wished in the early stages.

So far as we have gone at present, the machine seems very reasonably silent and the general finish and appearance of the machine is excellent.

Cold cutting in speed 440 r.p.m.
