The Berling D.63 magneto differs from a magneto of the conventional type in several respects which make the magneto appear to be unnecessarily complicated, especially as regards distributor cover and terminals. The contact breaker consists of a rocking block of grey fibre compressing the a spring which apparently might give trouble by breaking. The magneto is fitted with short cams. Provision is made in the form of three small oil cups for lubrication of the bearings with a fiew drops of oil occasionally. The high tension distributor is of the jump spark type in which, however, the spark jumps axially instead of radially. No ventilation appears to be provided. The safety spark gap of this magneto is placed at one side of the machine at the point of collection of the high tension discharge from the revolving conductor ring and can be easily removed for inspection. The high tension discharge on the safety gap is made to take place practically within a small porcelain cup, and the space
