SEGRAVE'S DEATH SHOCKS DERBY. ROYAL MESSAGES OF SORROW. SEARCH FOR BODY OF MISSING DERBY ENGINEER WIFE SEES DISASTER. THE DEATH of Sir Henry Segrave after breaking the world's water speed record yesterday, has not only shocked Derby, but the whole nation, and the King and Queen and the Prince of Wales have sent messages of sympathy to his widow. Meanwhile attempts are being made to recover from Lake Windermere the body of "Vic" Halliwell, the Derby engineer, who also lost his life in the disaster to Miss England II., and whose wife witnessed the wreck of the craft. Little hope is entertained of finding his body, however, unless the boat can be brought to the surface of the lake, which is problematical in view of the difficulty in obtaining suitable apparatus. - Halliwell was an awfully good fellow, and I know he would have been broken to know that the record has been broken. Sir Frederick Royce, in an interview, greatly doubts the practical value of a speed attempt of this kind. 'One has to pause to ask what is the object of it all? At the time the race for one particular value was limited entirely to the one point, and I have no doubt that its practical value was provided for. Had he been living, he might have provisioned something of the data on which the engine was constructed for some other purpose.' Mr. A.{Mr Adams} Wormald, director and works manager of Rolls-Royce, has been at Windermere for the past week, and he played an active part in the preparation of the boat. He told the 'Daily Express' representative at the spot... SIR H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} SEGRAVE IN DERBY. Secret Purpose of his Visit. "TO BUY CAR." It was on August 19th last year that Sir Henry Segrave paid his last visit to the Rolls-Royce works. It was taken for granted that it was connected with the magnificent R engine now installed in Miss England II. At the time, however, the purpose of the visit was held a close secret, and Sir Henry, when interviewed by a 'Daily Express' representative at the time refused to draw. 'TO BUY A CAR.' Everyone arrived at the conclusion that he was in Derby for the purpose of buying a car. It was said at the works of the Rolls-Royce in the world...
