RE. DEPOT SHEET NO. HM.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} 25.
LUBRICATION OF CLUTCH.

The instructions given in (2) can be modified advantageously. Instead of blocking up the three holes, better results can be obtained if the quantity of lubricant put in is divided up and one quarter put in each hole. This method distributes the lubricant over the clutch surface better than if it is all put in at one point. There is no necessity to block up any of the holes when applying the lubricant.

The Depot sheet agreement form leads one to understand that the instructions apply to both Phantom and 20 HP. chassis. They cannot be applied to the 20 HP. car; there are no drain holes drilled in the flywheel on this model and the only means of ingress to the friction surfaces is through the clutch levers slots in the flywheel - the clearance here is very small and it is exceedingly difficult to guarantee that any of the lubricant reaches the clutch faces.

More effective lubrication can be obtained if one of the clutch springs and cartridge is removed - it is then possible to insert lubricant effectively. Owing however to there being no drain holes provided in this clutch it does not appear advisable to recommend this treatment, as if too much lubricant is used there is no means of draining it away except by dismantling the whole clutch.

If a syringe is not available, the lubrication can be carried out equally well by means of the Lucas No. 40 force feed oiler at present supplied as part of the kit with Phantom chassis.

Attached is the Depot sheet Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} 25 revised as per our remarks.
