With reference to the attached letter from BJ.

It was mentioned by me that R.{Sir Henry Royce} had considered lengthening the front springs of the 20 HP. and that if this was done it would mean lengthening the frame. This was only mentioned as a possibility because if any alteration to the frame is necessary, all the promises which have been made for the 20 HP. would have to be drastically revised.

We do feel anxious about the front spring problem on the 20 HP. because we know that the present standard 20 HP. has never completed 10,000 miles without spring failure. This is without front wheel brakes fitted. Front wheel brakes will certainly increase the troubles, so therefore we have got to make a very definite improvement in the springs on the 20 HP. before we can hope to complete a 10,000 miles without spring failure.

It would not be so difficult if it was agreed to accept the same reliability on the front springs when the brakes are fitted as we have now, but if they stick to the regulation of 10,000 miles without failure as they did w on the 40/50, it may be very difficult.
