E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG15.1.23. SPLIT PINS in GUDGEON PIN SET SCREWS. X636 X343/ We are always in more or less trouble with these split pins breaking off and dropping into the crankcase. We do not consider the split pin is the proper lock to use in such a position. With the tremendous number of reversals, one cannot anticipate a loose split pin having a very long life. We should be pleased to have any suggestions for doing away with these split pins.
