REAR AXLE. REAR HUB & BRAKE.
It should be noted that in issuing for production to the chart which has been circulated by Wor {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} , you should not include the following items;-
(1) Bevel Pinion Thrust as a unit.
At present only three sets of these have been instructed to the Works of one type. The Exp. Dept, have not yet decided which of the three types proposed by Mr Royce is considered to be the best.
(2) Brake Drum & Dust Cover.
These two items should be held up, owing to the outside diameter of the flange not yet being fixed for the brake drum, also the carbon content of the steel may require variation to overcome the cutting action which at present occurs on low carbon steel drums.
We should issue the scheme we have just put through, by which we reduce the total number of Enots Lubricators on the back axle from 12 to 6, as there appears nothing in this scheme which is likely to give any trouble.
The Foot brake should act in the drum next to the large flange bolting same to the hub - the hand brake should be next to the open end of the drum.
I think the foregoing will clear up the position definitely so far as you are concerned. All other details should be instructed to the O.O. for them to order up in accordance with Wor {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 's chart.
