A.C. Speedometer. We have recently conducted Bench Endurance tests on a sample A.C. type Speedometer made suitable for our Bentley chassis. The Speedometer was tested to our specification test No.EL.8, with very satisfactory results. The instrument is slightly more damp than the AT. with the result that the movement is less effected by changes in acceleration. The trip mechanism however is not quite as definite as the AT. but we query whether this would be noticed by customers. For the endurance test the instrument was run for 50,000 miles, 35,000 of which were completed with the flexible drive arranged with a loop of 4" diameter. This is a very stringent test on the drive, but no trouble was experienced at all throughout the whole run. The scale reading was maintained at 90 miles per hour through out. We have now obtained a further pair of these instruments, one AT speedometer and the other a rev counter, correctly calibrated to suit the chassis, and these are to be fitted to 6-B-IV for further test. In addition to the tests mentioned above, we recently completed 15,000 miles in France, on Bentley chassis 3-B-IV with an AT rev counter and no trouble being experienced. In view of the substantial reduction in cost with this instrument as compared with the AT, we are contemplating standardisation of the same on Bentley chassis, if the test on 6-B-IV is satisfactory. | ||
