contd : -2- in an inverted MXXXX position. Regarding the actual drawings for this Super Eagle I was a little bit disappointed that no very definite progress has been made, probably owing to the pressure of other work, and I discussed with RG.{Mr Rowledge} that as E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} was the best designer we had in the firm on actual drawings of petrol engines, he should be relieved of some of the un-important detail work which he is doing, and be asked to help with the designs for this Super Eagle, or any other engine work which is of sufficient importance. It will be remembered that RG.{Mr Rowledge} suggested that they had more than enough to do with current work, even if they did not design this Super Eagle at Derby. He therefore welcomed my suggestion that E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} should help. We went over some leading features and it was decided that E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} should proceed to make a scheme of the cylinders, valves and valve gear. This will be in progress in a few days providing it meets with your approval. Regarding the situation of Eagle lX. I think it will be as well if RG.{Mr Rowledge} and BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} after meeting you in London to get as many facts as possible, should come on here to discuss the matter of what is best to do with Eagle lXs. to make them at least as reliable as Eagle Vllls. if they are not already so.
