6092? Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}6/JH. 26th August, 1937. Henry Wiggin & Co.Ltd., Wiggin Street, Birmingham. Dear Sirs, We recently obtained from your firm a quantity of 22 S.W.G. uncovered Brightray wire, and were under the impression that this had a tough oxidized skin. We therefore used some of this for winding a resistance unit in which lack of space necessitated a close winding with adjacent turns touching. The unit having to carry a current of 0.8 amperes the resistance of this unit is approx. 15 ohms and there is about ½ volt drop between adjacent turns. We found that the turns shorted and wondered if we were using the correct wire. We enclose herewith a short length of same, and would be pleased to have your opinion. If this is the wrong type of wire, will you please send direct to me a small sample of suitable wire. We should much appreciate any further information with regard to this type of wire. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
