OIL FILTERS. X4037

With reference to BY11/N19.4.29. and OY's note on the same subject.

We have had considerable experimental experience with the Auto Klean filter. We have tried it both for petrol and oil.

The principal advantage of this filter over other types of edge filter is that it is provided with two sets of plates which are interlocked. One set of plates is attached to a handle which is external to the filter. When the edges of the plates become choked with foreign matter they can be cleaned by turning the handle.

Our experience has been that while the filter can be cleaned by turning the handle, it is not restored to 100% capacity, but reasonably nearly so.

We found that when we used these filters continuously on test bed work, they collected so much foreign matter that when the plates were rotated, grit got into them as they were only made of brass. We have since had some steel plates made to overcome this trouble.

The other disadvantages of this filter is that to have a large capacity it becomes very heavy.

For filling petrol where the filter is easily accessible, the Auto Klean filter does not seem to have any advantage over the fixed plate type, such as, contd :-
