-3- BENTLEY UNIT No.4. contd. 3 Exhaust valves in KE.965 and 3 in Silichrome X.C.R. (non stellited) Following 'running in' check curve of valve temperatures at high speeds full throttle with the coolant jet as fitted, also when removed. Endurance to be run under full throttle conditions only, at a constant speed/up to a duration of 25 hours. of 4000 R.P.M. Run on Ethyl full for valve comparison and keep a check on valve clearance. No.2. BED. PHANTOM III. No.6. UNIT. Unit for bearing endurance. No.1 & 2 big ends are Std. W/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} No.3 & 4 Hoyts 'Satco' metal. No.5 & 6 Houts E.J. W/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Main bearings in A.C.6 alloy. Running in with gradually increased load for 6 hours. A.{Mr Adams} side head to have the tappet plunger springs removed with solid tappet setting of .006 and .008. B. side to have normal hydraulic tappet action. Endurance with an oil inlet temp. of 100°C. each hour as follows:- 30 mins at 4000 R.P.M. 25 " " 4250 " 5 " " 4500 " If O.K. run to 25 hours duration before returning for examination.
