W/P. To Sr/VA. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}6/AP.28.6.37 CHASSIS B.200.G.A. - Embiricos. In reply to your memo Sr/VA.5/ET.16.6.37 regarding our supplying you with combined oil filler and breather pipes as fitted on the above car, a further memo Srl/ET.23.6.37 has now come to hand. From the latter memo it appears that the above car after attention at Kingsbury, including the fitting of the above type of breather still has has excessive oil consumption. Logically therefore from your results there is no point in fitting the new breathers to any more cars which have excessive oil consumption. We should be interested to know what change in consumption you would obtain by going back to standard breathing if this be possible for you to arrange. We do not recommend any alteration being carried out in respect of cutting down the rocker oil supply, providing the shaft is fitted the correct way. Any proof of what you could obtain by reducing the rocker supply can be done by noting the change in oil consumption when new valve spring grummets are fitted. The consumption should be carried out immediately after fitting new grummets as after 2 or 3 hundred miles they begin to lose their efficiency as oil 'stoppers'.
