OUR REF M/C.69 6th Sept.1921. RECEIVED 7 SEP 1921 Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. Dear Sirs, Re Lighting & Starting Batteries. We thank you for your letter of the 2nd inst. EFC 2/T which is very interesting to us. The improvements that have taken place in our batteries would not effect the output or performance such as you have tested, they merely assist towards a longer satisfactory life. For example, all batteries sooner or later generally develop internal short circuits between the positive and negative plates on the bottom rests, but with our new suspension we think we have got over that cause of failure. The new material that we use for the cells will not effect the performance or life of a battery, but it makes certain that a cell cannot be cracked and thus develop a leak. We have also slightly improved the vents which has stopped any bubbling out that might tend to take place. The sections really remain the same, so that what we recommend to you will be either of the two types, P.D.L. 9 or H.D.E.13. that you mention in your letter. We originally suggested the thick type of P.D.L.plate simply because we have definite knowledge of hundreds of our batteries of this type which have been 6 or 7 years in use on | ||
