Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 600 typed 13.5.37 8 CYLINDER ENGINE. The overall length of the block of the 8 cyl. Wraith is 33¼". The biggest bore it will take is 3.125, giving a capacity of 270 cu.ins. or 4.53 L (4.500 stroke). R.A.C. rating 31.25 HP. tax £24. Estimated weight 40 lbs. less than Bentley. To give a capacity of 320 cu.ins. (5.24.L) the bore must be 3.375, increasing the length of the block to 35½". R.A.C. rating 36.5 HP., tax £27, weight 7 lbs. less than Bentley. Using a C.I. block without liners, 328 cu.ins. could be got into a block length of 31½. This is with .200 thick barrels and .200 of water between the nearest bores. The weight would be 80 lbs. more than the Bentley using a C.I.head or 40 lbs. more with an alum. head. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Smth. | ||
