To Wa.{Mr Wallis} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4238 E1/G5.11.21. X.6550 (struck out, X.4238 written above) - GOSHAWK 11. MAGNETO DRIVE. (X.4357) We send you herewith drawing No.LeC.1479 shewing the magneto drive for Goshawk 11. Provision for adjusting the timing of the magneto is made in the 40/50 HP. manner on the dynamo drive gear wheel. The magneto has been mounted on a bracket bolted to the side of the crankcase. Normally, this face will be machined and drilled and provided with dummy bolts. If it be desired to fit a magneto to an engine already built up, it will be necessary to pull off the bottom half of the crankcase for the purpose of inserting the bracket bolts. This contingency, however, should be rare, as it will most likely be known before-hand when it is intended to fit a magneto to any particular chassis. It will be necessary to alter the exhaust system to enable the exhaust down-take pipe to clear the magneto drive tube. Also a new oil filler will be drawn. Mr. Royce proposes with regard to the breather, that the crankcase shall be connected to the carburetter silencer near to a free vent from the open air, so that the gases from the crankchamber will be drawn into the carburetter, but no air will be drawn through the crankchamber.
