x4263 x3599 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Mr. Booth. BY7/P12.7.21. X.15. X.3482 GOSHAWK 11. FRONT AXLE, REAR HUB AND BRAKE. RE TYPE OF WHEELS. X.4257 X.4263 x 3599 When I pressed Mr. Royce for a decision as to which type of wheel we proposed to use, he pointed out that there were three possibilities:- (a) Michelin Disc. (b) Dunlop detachable wire wheel. (c) Pressed spoked steel wheel. but considered that Sales should say which type they would like to adopt. I approached Sales on the matter, giving them prices for the different types - their reply was that they considered the Michelin wheel would meet their requirements. In view of the foregoing I would like to point out that the only wheels which have been detailed so far are Michelin disc wheels, and that we have had no instructions to detail the Dunlop wire wheels, although we were asked to put an "N" scheme showing a Dunlop wire wheel before the Dunlop Comapny and ask them if they were prepared to make it. They stated they were quite prepared to produce anything we required as an exclusive article for Rolls-Royce, but the question of the wire wheel has not been carried further than making enquiries and informing R.{Sir Henry Royce} of the result.
