| Contd:- pistons are new, and we are sure from our own observations that we can considerably reduce the tendency to knock in the new piston, and by leaving a well lubricated surface the wear should be imperceptible. The drawing we have sent you should be tried at once. It is simple that one doubts if it has any virtues, but it has many important advantages over those we have tried:- (1) It will work cooler. (2) The heat should not reach to lower portion. (3) The pin is lower-down. (4) A continuous surface well lubricated low down away from the heat carries the thrust, and owing to the surface being in contact with the cylinder the heat should pass to the jacket before reaching the lower parts.
