To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}

We were held up in the Solent all last night for fog. We may arrive at Havre at 2 p.m.

We had no further trouble with the petrol feed on the way down.

The exhaust is blowing badly, the welded joint where the pipe leaves the front expansion box has come adrift. We shall repair it in Paris.

Petrol Pump.

We have to look for the reason why the arrangement on this car has given so much trouble. I believe it is due to higher temperature as shown by the oil temperature.

We first ought to establish on the production cars whether the oil temp. on this car is what we have to expect.

We ought to make an improvement by a heat insulated joint between the pump and the crankcase.

Will you arrange to either go to the A.C., or get them over. It is much better to go over to them so as to see how they are tackling petrol pumps. I am sure they must have accumulated a lot of experience on vapour lock, and should know the essential features on the pump to avoid it. I suspect our air reservoirs. It is the one RR. feature we have introduced. We ought to rig up a test and check our pump against the A.C. for vapour lock.

Have we got our S.U. petrol pumps working on a rig continuously as arranged?

Exhaust System.

I suspect that our latest rubber mounting is not allowing free movement for expansion. We must get the other cars fitted up with this scheme of support.

We must do something about the noise with the cut-out open. If we can find the original scheme, I believe we shall find the cut-out in a different position in the length of the pipe.
