2nd October, 1936.

Messrs. Adamant Engineering Co.,
Dallow Road,
Luton.

For the attention of Commdr. Matravers.

Dear Sirs,

We have previously mentioned to you over the telephone that on the 15 rollers which you supplied to us recently for finish grinding by Messrs. Ransome & Marles you left excessive grinding allowance.

We are returning to you under separate cover two of these rollers as we received them from you and one roller sectioned and etched.

As you will find by measuring these rollers, the excess allowance varies from 0.007 to 0.012 per side, which if added to the 0.008 originally allowed for, gives a total allowance of 0.015 to 0.020 on each side.

Also, from the sectioned roller, you will see that the depth of case is 0.020 - 0.025 on the unground surface, and as low as 0.010 on the tooth surfaces.

Our Mr. Robotham intends to arrange to visit your Works in the near future and we will refrain from commenting on the rollers until we see you.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS ROYCE LTD.
