R.R. 493A (20H) (D.A. 652 20-3-24) J.H.D. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. Expl. No. 41331 REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG14.10.24. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. BJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 41331 BUMP TESTS - 12½% THIN LEAF FRONT SPRINGS. Attached herewith is a further report on the failures on the bumping tests in connection with the above springs. It will be seen that the bottom leaves are still the first to fail. Since the last report, we have radiused packing pieces under the springs to avoid the sharp corners. This has not made any appreciable difference to the life of the bottom plates. We have now fitted some thinner bottom plates taken off some old type springs. The top leaves are standing up very well. The average life is higher than the previous Woodhead springs of this type with fewer plates. The life is considerably higher than Firths 12½% springs. If we can avoid the failures of the bottom plates, we should consider the springs very satisfactory. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
