Bentley Bumper Bar.

Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}16/E22.7.35

Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}14/KW.19.7.35 to Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and the first paragraph on page 2, the real position is that on your recommendation it was agreed as long ago as last May to standardise the bumper bar and this was reported in the Minutes Cxl/KW.24.5.35 where it says: 'Meantime it was agreed to standardise the stabiliser bumper for the front. The question of price for this is to be closely investigated'.

I remember at the time that I mentioned that the cost seemed very heavy and Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that a price was to be given to him before an order was placed, but there was no question about not getting on with it and, if it had not been standardised, it ought to have been raised then.

In June as per Cxl/KW.27.6.35 the Minutes said: 'News is still awaited from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} about the standardisation and price for the bumper for the front.'

The reference to 'standardisation' means information from BY as to the chassis number on which it would commence, but it appeared evident at that meeting that nobody had done anything about the price during the intervening month.

The only thing that was raised about it at the last meeting was that BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} reported the cost as being £4.10, and under 'Worst Features' it is recorded that front end movement is being taken care of by the fitting of a stabilising bumper bar.

The point I am really making is that the actual decision for standardising the fitting was taken as long ago as May and any delay which has taken place is at the W. end.
