Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GryS/R...... CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND. IN REPLY PLEASE QUOTE....GCM/IGB. 4th March, 1937. Messrs.Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Experimental Dept., Derby. For the attention of Mr.Grylls. Dear Sir, Immediately after your visit we experimented with the proposed mechanical horizontal accelerometer, as discussed at your visit. Preliminary tests however shew that we should have great difficulty in getting sufficient damping to give a steady reading on a moving motor car subject to bumps and vibration. We then invented an alternative form, using a liquid gauge which is most promising. The instrument is just being completed and we hope to send it to you for trial in a few days. Yours faithfully, For:- CAMBRIDGE INSTRUMENT COMPANY, LTD. [Signature] Joint Managing Director. P.S. We could not send it, as it must be kept reasonably upright. I am afraid it will have to be fetched, or sent by road sometime. | ||
