Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} Silencers Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}8/JH.4.11.40. re Exhaust Silencer Systems. We thank you for your Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}14/ML.28.10.40. in reply to our Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}5/JH.24.10.40. relating to the theoretical investigation of the Myth Exhaust Silencer System given on PL.379. Our Myth chassis frame will be capable of receiving any of the following exhaust systems without joints. a.{Mr Adams} The Vauxhall '10'. b. Half of the B.80 Duplex System. c. The layout of PL.379. We do not wish to appear to be labouring at a point unduly, but prior to the receipt of your memo. we had almost completed an investigation of the existing Duplex exhaust system of the Bentley 5 Corniche. On PL.395 (original attached to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH's copy of this memo.) we shew 1/2 of the Corniche exhaust system, on which we have plotted the nodal points. This system, arrived at by trial and error has its resonance chambers placed to deal with 2nd. node of the 5th. harmonic and the 2nd. node of the 7th. harmonic, the first node of the 3rd. harmonic remaining undealt with. This is what the theoretical analysis would have asked of the design. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Original to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH.
