-3- Ha/Dwg.2/LV.5.2.36. (2) Release valve sticks in closed position due to the expansion of the rubber gland (which is moulded to the valve stem) against the valve guide. Under these conditions the clutch could not disengage. (3) Once the car is jacked up, the engine has to be switched off, otherwise despite its release valve the pump gets very hot and would no doubt seize in a short time. This of course is useless if a customer wished to revolve the rear wheels for any purpose. (4) With the pump constructed as it is, it cannot be properly bled of air, and unless all air is removed, the pump knocks badly under load. However, it has been decided to use a hand pump on the first 50 chassis and it should be noted that although the engine pump raises all four wheels at once, the hand pump will raise either front or rear separately or all four wheels together.
