118 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}8/AP. August 4th 1937 Messrs Thermoid Ltd., Trenton, NEW JERSEY. U.S.A. Dear Sirs, Thermoid Brake Linings. We have been testing Thermoid clutch facings to see if they give a smooth take up; and as they give good results we would also like to test some Thermoid brake linings to see if they are less prone to squeak than the average lining. We enclose six prints of brake linings and would like 12 pieces of each, but before ordering we would like to know your price for these samples and also the price per hundred. The thickness of the linings shown on the drawings is rather greater than usual, and if it is impossible to supply in this thickness, we would like to know how thick you could make them. Again, we do not know how many types of brake linings you make; if there is more than one, that having a coefficient of friction nearest to 0.33 would be suitable, assuming you consider that this coefficient is not inconsistent with freedom from squeaks. Trusting to hear from you shortly, Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
