-2- contd. Messrs. North, Mr. Allen stated that they were producing an EW6 magneto with a better low speed performance, having increased the total cross sectional conductance of the primary winding and also increased the number of secondary turns slightly. It was at this time that we put it to them that we required the extra 6° of range, whereupon Mr. Allen informed us that he considered that this could be done. It was decided that they would send us six machines for experimental test in which these two principal proposals and one or two other minor modifications were simultaneously embodied. We duly received at the end of May six of these magnetos type EW6A, right-hand, bearing the following numbers 118713/4/5/6/7/8. Four of these are now fitted to experimental S.S. chassis 19-EX, 20-EX, 21-EX and 22-EX and the remaining two have been the subject of laboratory bench tests and investigations. We have been pleased to find that equally on bench tests, general and special tests on cars, these magnetos have been and are being consistently good in performance (with one exception referred to below in the passage quoted from report WD{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}72). The following is quoted from my assistant's report WD{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}72 :- "All of these magnetos in the first instance were preliminarily bench tested. Three of the six Nos.118713/4/5 were fitted to chassis 22-EX, 19-EX and 20-EX respectively | ||
