Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from EP. {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} K2618 RECEIVED 14 MAR 1922 EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 12/H14.3.22. Re. SQUEAKS FROM THICK LEAF SPRINGS. This is a trouble we still have to contend with, and Br. {T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} informs us that he has achieved more universal success by easing off the tips of the spring leaves to the extreme length of the tapered off portion of the plate and not the corners as recently suggested. This feature I feel requires experimenting on and establishing, and is still an important matter which we have to deal with in connection with complaints from customers. I also feel that some instructions should be given for future thick leaf springs which we are still ordering, to be constructed with this modification, and springs we have in stock and also on cars should be altered to overcome this trouble prior to delivery. Probably you will take the opportunity of bringing this point up in discussion with R. {Sir Henry Royce} and also whether Hartford Shock Absorbers could not be more universally adopted. EP. {G.
