RE B.60 BLOCK The following points were discussed with C.S. with a view of facilitating production :- (1) The overflow boss from the oil release valve should be vertical. Section MM. Sheet II. (2) The hole for the oil pump will be very difficult to produce within the .001 on centre distance, if a window could be arranged in the side of the case this would enable us to use a pilot bar. LIMIT ± 2 If this is agreed, it should be cored back clearance just below the 1.1875" dia. and be about 1.5" square, the facing being carried out to the valve chest. MINUS LIMITS ON GRIND (3) The oil feed hole along the cylinder block is about 27" long. As we can only drill this from each end, the drill is sure to wander, this will no doubt be the cause of a few drill breakages when the holes meet. If an additional boss can be cast on the C/L of block and drilled say 1" dia. a clearance space would be provided for the four oil ways to meet. (4) No.6. bearing is drilled off the centre for the oil feed, it is assumed that 2, 3, 5 & 6 bearings will be common. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/G.Maclure. | ||
