Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} 3 1113. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}12/R.10.7.37. HEAVY OIL CONSUMPTIONS. From your observations, there seems to be something extraordinary about French conditions. The disconcerting feature is that Sr's car, which is quite standard, apparently, is giving perfectly satisfactory oil consumption. Therefore, we do not think that these faults of ring flutter, etc. can be entirely substantiated. We should like to know what consumption Sleator is actually getting. With a view, however, to getting some data for the future, we are sending out to Paris next week a set of pistons with really high pressure rings. We say that these pistons, under English conditions, would cause excessive cylinder bore wear. They may, however, be all right for France, anyhow, if you will arrange for Sr. to test them as soon as possible, we shall get the necessary information. The first Wraith is leaving for the Continent in a week's time, i.e., on July 16th. We are not satisfied with the engine unit, but the car will be run mainly to test brakes, suspension, etc. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
