For R.R. Magazine 1204 THE NEW STREAMLINE BENTLEY. -------------------------- Reports have recently appeared in the Press concerning the performance of a 4 1/4-litre Bentley chassis having an engine with increased output and fitted with a Streamline body. The car that was tried by the Press Representatives was produced in order to take advantage of the new motoring roads which are everywhere springing up in Europe. The speeds and the petrol consumption achieved are, so far as we know, the best ever recorded on a saloon car holding four people in comfort which can be run on ordinary fuel as purchased at any filling station. Some of the results achieved were as follows:- (1) An average of 112 m.p.h. for five minutes on an Autobahn. (2) 38 miles on a French road were covered at an average of 76 m.p.h. (3) A speed of over 115 m.p.h. was obtained on a French road and on the Autobahn. (4) Over 107 m.p.h. was covered on the Montlhery track under official A.C.U. observation. (5) The fastest lap under A.C.U. observation exceeded 110 m.p.h. (6) At an average speed of 80 m.p.h. on the autobahn, a fuel consumption of 21 m.p.g. was recorded, and at 60 m.p.h., the fuel consumption was 26 m.p.g. These latter figures were achieved with 3 passengers and luggage. | ||
