Marstons dissipater and the results are shown on attached sheet (2).

On this sheet also are shown the flow test and dissipation figures for the radiator matrix which ran 15,000 miles in 32-EX car, and which was badly choked with insects, portions of fowls etc. (a) a new standard MK.VI matrix (b) a new lightened construction matrix (.005 tinned waterway strip and .003 untinned airway strip) of the same construction as 32-EX car matrix.

Examination of these results collectively indicates -

(1) That two of the returned MK.VI. matrices show evidence of silting up which is not serious however.

(2) That no silting up whatever had taken place on 32-EX car matrix, but that its cooling powers had definitely been reduced by external choking.

(3) That one of the MK.VI. matrices returned as defective is perfectly sound.

We are proceeding with further tests on the road in connection with this subject.

Conclusions.

(1) Finalising of the oil cooler position must be deferred pending the results of the investigations mentioned above.

(2) The question of whether any trouble is likely to be experienced with MK.VI. matrices on B or C series cars is not definitely settled, pending the results of further tests.

Future cars, i.e. D series onwards should definitely be free from silting up trouble since they will have the aluminium hot spot box instead of the iron one, will have maximum size matrix waterways and will probably have corrosion inhibitor in the coolant.
