For the attention of Mr.F.Ll.Smith.
Dear Sirs,
We have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 16th.inst., and note that the 10" Driven Plate Assembly fitted with oil slinger recently supplied to you is being returned so that moulded friction facings may be substituted for the woven type at present fitted.
We shall be pleased to hear the result of your experiment with the Bentley car in connection with same.
With reference to the question of the size of the drive screw heads, would advise that in checking this up with the manufacturers we are advised that it is not possible for larger diameter heads to be supplied.
With reference to the friction characteristics for the woven and moulded materials, would advise that the maximum co-efficient of friction under static conditions is .36 for the woven and .32 for the moulded. From this you will appreciate that the latter will have an increased tendency to slip.
Trusting the above is the information required.
Yours faithfully,
BORG & BECK COMPANY LIMITED,
H.T. Barker
