X4050 1 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from B.J.) Copies to OJ. [STAMP: RECEIVED AUG 1921] BJ8/H28.7.21. X.4050. Straight-sided Tyres with Cord fabric. X.3725. Dunlop Wheels fitted with Goodyear Demountable Rim. X.4050. We have agreed to the attached standardisation sheet, but we have yet to decide when these tyres shall be introduced, for the reason shown in the following extract from Minutes of a Sales Conference held on the/26th instant:- "STRAIGHT-SIDED TYRES. It was agreed that we must have these in future, but it would be advisable at present for us to offer customers either straight-sided tyres with demountable rims at possibly £5 extra, or standard tyres as supplied now. We have a large number of standard tyres and wheels to get rid of, and this should give us an opportunity of getting rid of them. C. is in communication with Dunlop's to ascertain whether, if we make straight-sided tyres/standard, they will supply them at the same price as our present tyres." X.3725. The same applies to the standardisation sheet returned herewith concerning Dunlop wheels fitted with Goodyear demountable rims. Meantime you are doubtless making strenuous tests of both the actual rims and tyres we intend to use, in order to ascertain whether there is any possible flaw or disadvantage with regard to their use.
