FILE COPY. Hillcrest, Greenclose, Whitchurch, Glamorgan. 1st February, 1941. Messrs. Bentley Motors, (1931) Ltd., 15, Conduit Street, LONDON. Dear Sirs, As an enthusiastic motorist who has just read the articles in the Motor and Autocar describing your new Mark 5 model, I am wondering if you would be kind enough to enlighten me on a few details. I notice your exhaust valves are faced with "Stellite". How is it possible to use this hard metal on I presume, a normal cast iron valve seating without the latter becoming worn quickly? I notice your flywheel is flexibly connected to the crankshaft, and am wondering if the clutch is in the flywheel. If so, how do you maintain clutch rigidity? In the Motor they mention the use of a "tension shackle" which is a new expression to me. I should be glad to know what this refers to and how it works. I have carefully inspected all the drawings but cannot see the "powerful anti-roll bar" mentioned. If you could explain this to me I should be grateful. And, lastly, I notice you use rods under tension instead of wires for your brake operating mechanism, which to one with my comparatively small knowledge in these matters is not obvious, and I should appreciate your comments on this. Hoping you will accept my remarks in the way they are intended, namely, the genuine desire to increase my mechanical knowledge and that in due course I shall be favoured with your reply, for which I thank you in anticipation, Yours faithfully, Sgd. A.{Mr Adams} THOM. | ||
